Norton: Blacks used their vote ‘to save the seat of a white senator’

http://twitter.com/#!/BerniceKing/status/483079354331582466 2014 is the 50th anniversary of “Freedom Summer” the huge voter registration project in Mississippi focused on registering black voters during the summer of 1964.  In her tweet about Freedom Summer, Washington DC delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton made reference to Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran needing the votes of black Democrats to win his runoff election with tea party challenger Chris McDaniel. http://twitter.com/#!/EleanorNorton/status/483078507140878336 It’s not entirely clear what Norton’s point is, but she is either suggesting that black voters squandered their right to […]

http://twitter.com/#!/redsteeze/status/407193489005641728 Snort-worthy. As Twitchy reported, the debacle known as HealthCare.gov was “revamped” and is supposed to be working for the “vast majority” of people. Except, you know, it’s still causing headaches. But, hey! Did Queen Elizabeth II’s pardon of Alan Turing go far enough?

http://twitter.com/#!/AnnaBeecher/status/415459578311364608 Queen Elizabeth II granted a posthumous pardon yesterday to Alan Turing, the legendary British code breaker who was criminally convicted for being gay. After being forced to undergo chemical castration, Turing committed suicide in 1954. As Ally Fogg notes, Turing’s work on the Enigma codebreaking machine “made him more responsible than almost any other British individual for the ultimate defeat of Nazi Germany.” Quite understandably, many tweeters believe the Queen’s pardon was long overdue: http://twitter.com/#!/fwwhomefront/status/415423446097887232 http://twitter.com/#!/smalltitchyone/status/415446202205741056 A number of commentators, […]
